BAAR, Switzerland, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- One Horizon Group, Inc. (OTCQB: OHGI) ("One Horizon Group" or the "Company"), which develops software application platforms that optimize mobile communications over the Internet, announced today the launch of exciting new social networking features in its ground breaking Horizon Call app on Android, enabling service providers to further differentiate themselves from over-the-top ("OTT") players by offering innovative, integrated mobile Voice, Messaging and Advertising services over Internet Protocol ("IP").
Mark White , Chief Executive Officer of One Horizon Group commented, "With One Horizon's new rich communication and social networking features such as video and picture messaging, geolocation sharing, and SMS breakout, service providers can launch services that surpass those offered by OTT players while protecting revenue streams and customer loyalty."
The new features, available for Android devices today, are integrated in the One Horizon Group suite of optimized mobile applications already leveraged by leading service providers globally.  The Company's mobile Voice, Messaging and Advertising over IP communication software platform is based on its Horizon SmartPacket technology, which reduces bandwidth consumption and latency to offer higher quality of service and longer uninterrupted call durations compared to other mobile voice over IP ("smart VoIP") solutions.
Horizon Call's unique low bandwidth capabilities make the Android app up to ten times more efficient than standard based SIP dialers, thus enabling VoIP calls over GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G/LTE or Wi-Fi of more than 30 minutes per megabyte of data.
With the increasing strain of third party OTT smart VoIP and Messaging apps on mobile operator networks and core revenues, service providers have realized the need to build differentiated mobile Value Added Services over IP.  One Horizon Group has already been recognized for having revolutionized the way mobile VoIP service can be deployed, allowing users to access mobile VoIP on an anytime anywhere basis even on GPRS connectivity.
IDC estimates that 918 million smart phones will be shipped in 2013.  In 2012, smartphone shipments rose 46.1% globally to a record 722 million devices, and the Android operating system accounted for 68.8% of total smartphone shipments.
"The release of the new Horizon Call features for Android is further evidence of our commitment to driving value for the mobile service providers' eco-system through our turnkey mobile VoIP, Messaging and Advertising platform. With One Horizon, service providers benefit from extensive monetization tools and from a partner that understands how to streamline technical and operational challenges to accelerate time to market," Mr. White concluded.
